UPDATES / US FALL TOUR
Somehow, I forgot to post about the entire Atlas live fall tour, which started earlier this month in Europe. It’s been a pretty turbo year…in late May I went on tour for three weeks with Leila Bordreuil, composed a soundscape for the Julia Stoschek Foundation in Berlin in August, did a couple episodes of Awe on NTS in between, went on a DJ tour in September, and, as mentioned, embarked on fall tour with Leila starting last month in EU, which was, predictably, a dream…Unsound was in an incredible theater and also the first gig we played together, cold, without a rehearsal, since Sónar back in June. Prague’s gig at MeetFactory had an incredible piano hired (I forget the make but it was one of these pianos that helps you play better because of its tone), Milan was sadly cancelled due to rain (the show was meant to happen on a floating platform in the middle of a pool), Brussels was in an unheated former lecture hall yet equipped with a Steinway and Leila and I performed largely acoustic that night, Alice at Hellig Kors Kirke in Copenhagen was pretty gorgeous, a deeply quiet audience with the entire church covered in wooden surfaces, and Paris, in closing, was a tender moment playing to both friends and family. Barcelona’s solo set at Razzmatazz was also deeply memorable in that, miraculously (with meticulous FOH/monitor engineers), they were able to place the piano on the floor in front of the club’s PA, without causing walls of feedback (I run the piano send through a series of fx on my mixer), which made for a special atmosphere, playing on the same level as the audience.
So, now, that I am thinking about it clearly, we are headed out on the road in the US for the rest of tour, starting next Friday, at the following places:
11/7 - Chicago - Epiphany Center for the Arts*
11/20 - Los Angeles - 2220 Arts & Archives
11/22 - Seattle - Seattle First Baptist Church*
11/23 - Portland - First Congregational UCC*
* pres. by Reflections (use code REFLEX for 30% off ticket price)
↳ News
At the beginning of September I had a chat with Chloe Lula for the RA Exchange series - we talk about the album, playing live with Leila, the development of Awe, coming of age through the lens of freeform radio, live vs. dj and time spent in various musical capitals across the world.
↳ Awe on NTS
The latest episode of Awe is here - it’s an excerpt of an ambient DJ set I did at Sustain-Release Year 10 this past September - will share the full set soon. Next one is coming up this Tuesday at 12p LA / 8p London / 9p Berlin time.
↳ Atlas (AWE001)
It’s wild to me that Atlas is one year old. The process has changed my life, to make, release and perform this record. I’m so grateful to everyone who worked on this record with me, and to everyone who’s listened at home or come to see a show or spent time in other ways with this music. Improbable yet audible whispers across the distance...it’s hard to put into words this feeling. It truly means the world that the music has echoed with some of you.
Can’t wait to play these final shows of the album, and to allow space for what’s next.
↳ Recent inspo/thoughts
I am listening to Leila’s latest album as well as Beatrice Dillon’s new album (both astonishingly beautiful in different ways). I am reading Dead Souls and recently watched Orlando and Caravaggio for a double dose of Tilda Swinton in Renaissance drag. The Dodgers won the World Series and my neighborhood erupted in fireworks, I wish I cared about baseball.
Whether you care about America’s pastime or not, I think it goes without saying to American readers out there to please VOTE this coming Tuesday.
